What research areas does the program cover?
Our program is diverse, encompassing digital media technologies like gamification, storytelling, journalism, music, and human-computer interaction. We offer 4 specializations: Technology and Human-Computer Interaction; Audiovisual and Interactive Content Creation; Journalism, Data and Information Management; and Industry, Public, and Markets.

What's the typical duration for program completion?
Our doctoral program spans over 4 years, including 1 year of coursework and 3 years of research. However, the duration can extend up to 4-5 years based on your pace and commitment.

What type of courses will I be taking?
You'll engage in a mix of Communication Sciences and Communication Technologies, with an opportunity to delve into any scientific area of your interest.

Can I take courses from partner universities outside my host institution?
Yes, you can enroll in courses from our partner universities, either attending in person or remotely. Just make sure to inform your PhD program director in your host institution as you need to be officially enrolled in it. Also, confirm that the desired course is available in the current year.

What's the language of instruction?
We primarily instruct in Portuguese, but we're accommodating towards non-Portuguese students to ensure an inclusive classroom.

What are the enrollment costs for the program?
For detailed information on program costs, please check with each partner university, as they may have their unique administrative rules and procedures. Typically, the annual fees are 2750€.

Is there any financial aid or scholarships available?
Yes, there are options like the national FCT and some regional scholarships to which you can apply. Sometimes, our faculty secure projects that offer PhD scholarships. To understand what's available, it's best to contact our coordination team.

Can I become a student representative?
Absolutely! If you're interested in representing your class or contributing to the program's social events, please contact our Doctoral Program coordinator. We aim to have a balanced representation from each university and each year of the program.
